“Good wine is a necessity of life for me.”
              -Thomas Jefferson

Virginia Wine Month may be over, but at Pippin Hill, we like to enjoy the good things in life year ’round.

Interested in joining the continued celebration? Check out our wine tasting tips, then get ready to embark on the tantalizing tasting tour below!

11:00 am – Pippin Hill Farm

pippin-hill-tasting-roomSurprise! There’s no better winery to begin an adventure through the Virginia wine region than our own Pippin Hill with breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Recently recognized for our memorable food & wine experience by Tom Sietsema of the Washington Post, we invite you to join us for lunch and order from our seasonal menu. Featuring several fall favorites -from homemade, wood-burning pizzas to warm honeycrisp apple crumble, there’s something for everyone.

Ask your server for wine pairing suggestions, or, order a glass of our Cabernet Franc. It’s spicy, aromatic and comforting — the perfect wine for Autumn afternoons.

1:00 pm – Blenheim Vineyards

Charlotesville Nov 2010 114Love a little wine and some Dave Matthews? Visit Blenheim Vineyards and sip on a glass of their 2013 Viognier while learning about the vineyard that is designed and owned by Charlottesville’s beloved musician.

The intimate, rustic tasting room is comforting like that of a ski lodge, and will certainly warm you up this fall. The glass panels offer a stellar birds eye view overlooking the winery below.

Ask the staff about the history of the farm, and Matthews’s story behind purchasing what is now known as Blenheim Vineyards.

3:00 pm – Jefferson Vineyards

Screen shot 2014-11-06 at 12.59.08 PMIt wouldn’t be a productive Charlottesville trip without visiting Thomas Jefferson, or for that matter, raising a glass in his name! Jefferson Vineyards is just six miles from Blenheim Vineyards, and only five miles from TJ’s Monticello home.

Enjoy a wine tasting to include ten tastings from an extensive list of wine selections. Schedule an informative vineyard tour with one of the knowledgeable employees. Pack a blanket and overlook views of Carter Mountain or snag a seat in the second tasting room for ample indoor seating and a cozy fireplace.

Drink like Jefferson, and order a dry red. We recommend the Petit Verdot!

There’s no better time to embark on a wine tour of Central Virginia! So go ahead; put off those chores until tomorrow, and take off for a mini-vacation around the rolling, autumnal hills of Central Virginia.
